Being a dark green stone with no opacity, this March birthstone also has red specks in it - quite a striking, complimentary contrast. Thhis gemstone might get its name due to its superstitious use to stop bleeding. By jamming it into, or at least onto, wounds, legend says the blood flow would stop. Interestingly, some religious people say the specks represent the blood of Jesus that fell at Calvary.
