Ancient Romans believed that if an aquamarine was carved with the image of a frog, that it held the power of reconciliation, turning enemies into friends. In the middle Ages, it was believed that the aquamarine was the best “oracle” stone, and that it made excellent crystal balls for fortune telling.
Aquamarine History: In 1910, the largest aquamarine, or March birthstone, was found in Brazil; it weighed a total of 243 pounds! That’s about the size of a large baby elephant. The gem was cut into lots of smaller gems for jewelry, yielding about 200,000 carats.
