This doesn’t mean it’s effective right away. “A policy goes into effect on the date the completed application is approved, usually about two to five business days after it’s received.”

(It’s important to note that jewelers aren’t licensed agents and cannot directly sell policies, but they can work directly with insurance companies to quickly facilitate the process.) Ask the retailer for a detailed description when you make your purchase, and get it in writing should you forget specifics between buying and insuring. “Think of the 4 Cs, as well as metal and mounting information,” says Green.
