By Aamir Mannan. ZOISITE STONE
The deep violet blue form of ziosite recently discovered in Tanzania, for which the name 'Tanzanite' has been suggested, has a rather distinctive spectrum as found in nature with a moderately strong, broad absorption band in the orange at 5950 A, and weaker broad bands

centered at 5280 A in the green and in the blue at 4550 A. This latest band might be thought dangerously near the well known band at 4500 A in sapphire, which is so useful an aid ti its recognition, but in the heat treated blue zoisites used in commerce the band is hardly visible, and in any case far less narrow and well defined.
