Burkina Faso Women Bridal Style Fashion Jewellery 19

Burkina Faso Women Bridal Style Fashion Jewelry.
By Aamir Mannan.

Burkina Faso, known as Upper Volta until its independence from France in 1960, and locally called the “land of the upright people,” is a medium-sized land-locked country with no less than six neighbors, some of which periodically get into trouble… which makes it reasonably strategic in some ways. While it has not done as poorly as some other African states, its economic has certainly not prospered and many Burkinabe go abroad to earn a living. As for politics, it is another case of stability without democracy, even if there are periodic elections. Still, this is better than not even having stability.
This third edition of Historical Dictionary of Burkina Faso covers its history through a chronology, an introductory essay, maps, appendixes, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary

section has over 1000 cross-referenced entries on important personalities, politics, economy, foreign relations, religion, and culture. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Burkina Faso.

There is a lot to like about Scarecrow’s various Historical Dictionaries series. The books are written by experts in the area or country that is covered. All contain well-written brief histories of the country and chronologies that, though they cover historical time periods, heavily feature more recent events. Brief A–Z entries cover the main people, politics, social issues, foreign affairs, institutions, and policies that make the country unique. Extensive bibliographies are divided into several general subject areas. This updated title, part of the Historical Dictionaries of Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East series, is no exception to the high standards. The State of Brunei Darussalam (darussalam means “abode of peace”) is a small Islamic sultanate located on the island of Borneo, surrounded by Malaysia. It may

surprise some readers of Historical Dictionary of Brunei Darussalam to learn that U.S.-Brunei relations go back to 1850, when the governments signed a treaty of peace, friendship, and commerce. Brunei may be known to many simply as the home of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, one of the richest individuals in the world (his entry in the dictionary provides details of his spending habits) in addition to being the ruler of the country. All university libraries as well as larger public libraries will be well served by having copies of this title.

Bulgarian folk costume in Bulgaria is the garments that were worn in Bulgarian villages until the beginning of the 20th century. These garments were hand made in the villages using materials that were produced locally. The basic structure of the clothing worn by men and women for workdays and holidays remained the same for many hundreds of years, until urban influenced fashion and factory produced clothes became available. The garments that can be seen in ethnographic museums today date from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century which is the period when the most

elaborate costumes were made. The costumes on display are often those worn for weddings, which had the most layers, and were worn with heavy metal jewellery. After women were married, and later were widowed the number of garments worn was reduced, with those being worn have little or no decoration. By the 1930s the strict adherence to the use of indictors of age in the structure of the garment worn died out.

The kingdom of Benin is located in the tropical rain forest of southern Nigeria. Here the Oba rules over the life and death of his subjects. In the Equatorial rain forest, ivory is plentiful and valued for its rich patina and magical powers. People of royalty in Benin wear hip ornaments made from brass that are worn for very special events. These are intricately carved and are held in high regard by its people. The Oba, or king is celebrated by the wearing of these pieces. The method of making these pieces is called bronze casting. The lost wax method of bronze casting was started in the thirteenth century by the Yoruba. The process was done by modeling a form in beeswax and coating it with clay. When the clay is dried, it is heated and melted wax is poured through vents into a hollow mold. When it has cooled the clay

coating is broken away. Many pieces of jewelry are made by this method including wide bracelets that are worn by women in Nigeria. These bracelets are worn to entice young men, limit movement of walking, affording them a handsome wiggle. They are made of thin plait brass, are very wide and are not removed for many years.

Nest of Tigress monastery in Bhutan. Built in 1692 The Taktsang monastery is one of the most famous and holy monasteries in Bhutan. It is situated at an altitude of 3120 meters above sea level. It's name means "Nest of Tigress." According to legend, Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) was transported into this cave, sitting on the tigress, which has become his wife Yeshe Tsogyal. On April 19, 1998 the monastery almost completely burned down, killing a few monks. However, in a short time the monastery has been restored. Old photographs and diaries were used to make the reconstruction as close to the original as possible. The monastery consists of seven temples, each of which can be visited. You can get there on foot or by mule.

According to the legend Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong. This place was consecrated to tame the Tiger demon.

Guru Padmasambhava founder of the meditations cave. Wall painting on Paro Bridge. An alternative legend holds that a former wife of an emperor, known as Yeshe Tsogyal, willingly became a disciple of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambahva) in Tibet. She transformed herself into a tigress and carried the Guru on her back from Tibet to the present location of the Taktsang in Bhutan. In one of the caves here, the Guru then performed meditation and emerged in eight incarnated forms and the place became holy. Subsequently, the place came to be known as the “Tiger's Nest.

The Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen) is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1663 by David Teniers the Younger, painter to the Archduke Leopold and Don Juan of Austria.

Fashion Department
The Antwerp Six

By the 1960’s general opinion had stopped considering the “applied arts” to be of lesser value than the “traditional arts”.  In accordance with the spirit of the times, a number of new departments were added to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts: graphic design, photography, jewelry design, ceramic arts and Fashion design.

In the beginning of the eighties, the fashion world and the international media started to get interested in Antwerp fashion designers, especially in the famous “Antwerp Six” who all graduated from the Academy.
